Good morning, Murrieta. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 15th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Some comments criticized a closed local church for not adding value, but other places of worship—such as churches, temples, and synagogues—continue to serve the area by providing shelter and community gathering spots. The mix of opinions shows that even as one congregation closed, a larger and active group keeps faith alive in town.  Valley News

CRIME NEWS

  • Murrieta Police responded to several 911 calls at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the intersection of California Oaks Road and Skyview Ridge after a truck collided with a car in a suspected DUI crash, trapping the adult female driver who was extricated and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead—investigators are seeking witnesses.  Valley News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ozu—rescued from a minivan with 36 other dogs—has inspired the character of Superman’s loyal sidekick in the new film. Riverside County’s Department of Animal Services said the shelter team saw potential in every animal and that Ozu’s rescue shows even pets can spark surprising heroism.  Valley News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Murrieta City Council introduced Ordinance No. 622-25 to levy special taxes on taxable properties within Community Facilities District 2025-4—following voter approval on July 15—to fund public infrastructure and repay bonds.
