CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested 34-year-old Bradford Wayne Byrnes after he led a pursuit in a stolen vehicle on May 21 near highways 371 — 79 in Aguanga, abandoned his vehicle near Boulder Way in Anza and fled on foot before being booked into Murrieta’s Southwest Detention Center.  Valley News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last week, the Murrieta Unified School Board passed a parent notification policy with a 3-1-1 vote that requires staff to tell parents when a student joins a club on school grounds. Supporters say the rule protects family rights — while critics worry it may break current law and risk student privacy.  Valley News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 8, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District board approved a $349,737 contract with Tharsos, Inc.—which also included $34,000 for design and added costs—to upgrade chemical pipelines at the Back Basin Groundwater Treatment Plant.  Valley News
  • On May 8, the Rancho California Water District board approved buying a 10.01 acre property on Belle Chaine Loop for $1,450,000 with a 6+0 vote and authorized general manager Jason Martin to sign the documents; the purchase will fund new recharge basins and wells as part of the Mid-Pauba Groundwater Banking project that will provide water during dry years.  Valley News
